Bus Safety Tips for Students, Parents, Drivers
Staff Report / FMlocal.org
As National Bus Safety Week concludes, the School District of Lee County in Fort Myers, Florida, emphasizes the importance of safety during student transportation. The district has provided specific safety tips for students, parents, and drivers to ensure a secure bus riding experience.
**Students are advised to:**
- Wait for the bus in a safe location, staying well off the roadway.
- Avoid standing, sitting, or playing near the street.
- Remain seated while the bus is in motion.
**Parents are reminded that:**
- They are responsible for getting their children to and from designated bus stops safely and for their behavior while waiting for the bus.
- It is important to know their child's bus number and bus stop location.
**Drivers are cautioned to:**
- Never pass a school bus when its stop-arm is extended and the red lights are flashing, as this is illegal.
- Follow all traffic signs, signals, and speed limits.
The School District encourages everyone to take part in promoting bus stop safety as a shared responsibility.
