**Tips for a Safe Halloween**

As Halloween approaches, the Fort Myers Police Department has shared important safety tips for drivers and families to ensure a fun and safe evening for everyone.

Drivers are urged to be especially cautious on Halloween night. It is crucial to watch for trick-or-treaters while driving, slow down, and keep an eye on the road. Young children, often excited and eager for treats, may cross streets unexpectedly.

For those going trick-or-treating, the police department recommends several safety measures. Children should always be reminded to look both ways before crossing streets, ideally using corners or crosswalks. Wearing bright, reflective costumes or adding reflective strips can enhance visibility, making it easier for drivers to see them.

Parents should also instruct their children to wait until returning home to eat any treats collected during trick-or-treating. Additionally, when selecting a costume, ensure it fits properly to prevent trips and falls, and consider using face paint instead of masks, which can obstruct vision.

In case of separation, young children should know a familiar phone number and must be reminded never to enter a stranger's car.

The Fort Myers Police Department emphasizes the importance of safety this Halloween and encourages everyone to take these precautions to protect little ones.
