National Injury Prevention Day: Keep Kids Safe

Staff Report / FMlocal.org

Today is National Injury Prevention Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about keeping children safe at home. Lee County Public Safety is sharing important tips to help parents and guardians create a childproof environment.

Here are some recommended safety measures:

1. **Cover Electrical Outlets**: Use tamper-resistant outlet covers to prevent children from accessing potentially dangerous electrical outlets.

2. **Store Small Items Safely**: Keep small items such as batteries, coins, and small toys in secure locations to reduce choking hazards.

3. **Secure Furniture**: Anchoring heavy furniture, including bookshelves and TVs, can help prevent them from tipping over and causing injuries.

4. **Lock Cabinets and Drawers**: Use safety latches on cabinets and drawers to keep harmful items like cleaning products, medicines, and sharp objects out of children's reach.
