Thanksgiving Food Handling Safety Tips Released

Staff Report / FMlocal.org

Thanksgiving is approaching, and Lee County Public Safety has shared important food handling safety tips to ensure a safe holiday.

The public is advised to cook turkey to an internal temperature of 165 degrees Fahrenheit. A meat thermometer can be used to check this temperature, which is essential for killing bacteria like salmonella.

To prevent cross-contamination, it is recommended to use separate cutting boards and utensils for raw meat and ready-to-eat foods.

Additionally, washing hands before handling food is crucial. Hands should be cleaned with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds to minimize the risk of spreading bacteria.
