Gulf Low Pressure System Likely to Develop Soon

Staff Report / FMlocal.org

A broad area of low pressure in the Gulf of Mexico has a high chance of development, currently estimated at 90%, as it moves northward over the next few days. The specific impacts of this system are expected to become clearer in the next 48 hours, but there is potential for storm surge, heavy rainfall, and strong winds during the latter part of the week.

Marine conditions are expected to deteriorate from Tuesday night through Friday as the system travels through the Gulf. Residents are urged to monitor forecasts from hurricanes.gov and to review their hurricane preparedness plans and supplies.

The update was issued at 2:30 AM on September 23, 2024, by the Fort Myers Police Department, which continues to monitor the situation closely.
