Stay Prepared: Florida Residents Urged to Plan Ahead

Staff Report / FMlocal.org

Florida residents are being reminded to stay prepared as Florida Preparedness Month concludes. The focus is on creating individualized disaster preparedness plans, which should account for youth, pets, and seniors. It is recommended that families maintain a fully stocked disaster supply kit containing enough supplies to last at least seven days for each person and pet.

Residents are encouraged to visit FloridaDisaster.org/Know to check if their homes are in evacuation zones, which is crucial for developing an effective evacuation plan. Additionally, keeping vehicles either halfway full of gas or halfway charged is advised to facilitate quick evacuations if necessary and to avoid long lines for fuel or charging stations.

Homeowners should also secure their properties by removing potential debris such as loose tree limbs, patio furniture, and sports equipment.

More preparedness tips can be found at FloridaDisaster.org/Guide.
