Lee County Public Safety Reports September Highlights
Staff Report / FMlocal.org
In September, Lee County Public Safety reported that telecommunicators processed a total of 21,300 calls. The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) team responded to 8,881 incidents, transporting 5,233 patients to local hospitals.
During Hurricane Helene's activation, there was a significant increase in call volume. On September 26th and 27th, outgoing calls surged to 429 and 370, respectively, which is more than double the normal volume. This situation required extensive coordination with various agencies, including Florida Power and Light (FPL) and Lee County Electric Cooperative (LCEC), to manage the emergency response effectively.
As October begins, residents are reminded that Hurricane Season is still in effect. It is advised that families review their emergency plans and ensure they have necessary supplies ready for any potential weather events.
