Hurricane Milton: Evacuate and Seek Shelter Now

**Hurricane Milton Update - October 9, 2024**

The City of Fort Myers is currently facing Hurricane Milton, prompting the Fort Myers Police Department to conduct final evacuation sweeps in Zones A and B. Residents in these areas are urged to make use of the 13 emergency shelters available in Lee County, all of which have open availability.

Authorities are warning of potentially life-threatening storm surge, with predictions of 8-12 feet. Residents are advised to safeguard their families and pets, as driving conditions are expected to deteriorate this afternoon.

It is recommended that people be sheltered in place by 2 PM today. Severe thunderstorm bands are expected to impact the area throughout the day.

Motorists are strongly encouraged to stay off roadways until the storm has passed.
