Tornado Alerts: Prepare, Act, Stay Safe Now

Staff Report / FMlocal.org

Residents are urged to pay close attention to tornado alerts following recent updates from the Fort Myers Police Department.

A **Tornado Watch** has been issued, indicating that weather conditions may lead to the development of severe storms and tornadoes. People are advised to prepare by knowing their safe locations and being ready to act quickly if a Tornado Warning is issued.

In the event of a **Tornado Warning**, this means a tornado has been spotted or detected by weather radar. Immediate action is necessary, as there is a threat to life and property. It is crucial to seek refuge in the safest location available.

Additionally, a **Tornado Emergency** has been declared as an exceptionally rare event where there is a severe threat to human life and potential catastrophic damage from a confirmed violent tornado. Similar to a Tornado Warning, individuals are instructed to take immediate action and find the safest shelter.

Motorists are specifically advised to stay off the roadways as destructive rain bands approach the area. The unpredictable nature of the storm poses significant dangers. Residents should remain alert to weather warnings and follow all instructions provided by authorities.
